Early Kutahya Armenian tiles were composed of white and blue colors only. To develop and enrich their work, the Armenian masters merged yellow, green, and Armenian red colors in their artwork during the 17th century.

To create this scarf, we used tiles that had origins from Kutahya that later were transported to Jerusalem by Armenian families, which became known as “Jerusalem tiles.” We also used embroidery, which is unique in the Armenian culture.

From 1658 to 1660, by the decree of Hakob Jughayetsi, Catolicos of All Armenians, Matheus Tsarents founded the Holy Etchmiadzin and St. Sargis Publishing Houses in Amsterdam. Soon after, in 1664, the leadership of the publishing house was transferred to Voskan Yerevantsi.

Thanks to his efforts, the first Armenian Bible was published in 1666. The book that was used for the translation was the Biblical copy of Hetum King of Cilicia, which was written in 1295. Voskan Yerevantsi edited this text from the Latin translation of Vulgata. The Voskanian Bible publication is considered one of the best examples of historic Armenian printing.

This work is inspired by the mysterious history of Mount Sipan, located near Lake Van. According to the myth, Noah’s Arc scraped against the peak of the Mount of Grgur and reached the Mount Sipan, which directed the way to the giant Ararat.

Armenian architecture is characterized as one of Armenia’s leading artistic expressions, rich with tradition and cultural identity. During the 3–4 centuries, architecture embarked on a new development period due to the state of political, socio-economical, ideological, and cultural circumstances. This work is inspired by Armenian architecture and stone carvings from the Mush region of Western Armenia.

Armenian blue or Armenian azure is the collective name of the blue pigments used in Armenian. It is often associated with a semi-precious stone, Lapis lazuli. In Armenia, this pigment was used in paintings, particularly in miniatures and dyeing of textile materials. While creating this scarf, rich in enchanting shades of blue, we combined elements of Armenian manuscripts and architecture, incorporating the mysterious essence and spirit of our old traditions.
