About the Symbol:
The Artsakh Symbol, known as “We Are Our Mountains” or “Tatik u Papik,” is one of the most famous monuments of Artsakh. Located near Stepanakert, the monument was created in 1967 by sculptor Sargis Baghdasaryan. Made from red tuff stone (a natural Armenian building material), the composition represents two elderly figures—Grandfather and Grandmother—dressed in traditional national costumes. The figures are seamlessly integrated into the mountains, symbolizing their connection to the land and their people. From their elevated position, the elderly figures stand as a silent witness to the centuries of struggle and perseverance of the Armenian people in their fight for their land and heritage.
