Woman of Armenia (Hai Kanaik) is a series of pastel drawings by artist Lusine Tumanyan, based on historical photographs of Armenian girls and women of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The author found photographs in archives, libraries, books and catalogs.
Behind each of the 15 images lies a difficult fate—slavery, persecution, the loss of loved ones to genocide and war. Yet all of these women are Armenian, proudly gazing at us, dressed in their national costume or its interpretation.
The artist’s goal was to convey the image of the heroine, to remind us of the hardships that Armenians experienced at the beginning of the century, but also to decoratively transform black and white photographs into bright pastels, adding colors to ornaments, fabrics, jewelry and clothes. We have collected and combined all of them into a set of postcards on decorative cardboard.
The set contains 15 postcards and on the back of each photo is an archival photograph and the year it was taken.
They are packed in tissue paper, a decorative cardboard envelope and a transparent bag.
