$25.00
Diana Movsesyan’s book is a fictionalized documentary, that tells a family story of Nureyan/Mambreyan family’s child Kirakos, who survived the Armenian Genocide and the odyssey of his life: how he ended up in the United States, settled there, then returned to Soviet Armenia and was exiled to Siberia. Alongside the hero’s life story, the book presents historical events of the 20th century that in one way or another affected the Armenian people.
The book is available in English (145 pages), Russian (158 pages) and Armenian (163 pages). Soft cover.
The plot of this book, initially planned as a purely documentary piece, is based on the brief stories told by the author’s husband family and relatives. It finally took shape after two years of collecting the materials and documents necessary to start. This is a story of the grand-grand father of the author’s daughters, a story about the stunningly unfair life of a man who, by the will of fate, had found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. He would become one of the 2,506,780 names listed on the website “Immortal Barracks”, each with their own unique story. Author collected all the stories and memories of eyewitnesses, looked through the archives, sorted the photographs, and spent sleepless nights to put everything together, polishing, honing, and considering every word.
This book is about each of us, and George is a collective image of everyone who survived the Genocide. This is a book about the fate of the entire Armenian people, whose children are uprooted trees scattered all over the world – some have survived, while others were less fortunate.
