Try our heirloom scarlet runner beans. We have enjoyed growing them with their beautiful scarlet red flowers and their more amazing deep purple and black spotted beans. High in protein, soluble fibers (which lowers cholesterol), calcium, phosphorus, and Vitamin A & C, and low in calories, they add a significant advantage to any meal or snack!
Do you always have a hard time cooking beans? Try this and you will always have nicely cooked beans fast and easy!
For each cup of beans, bring 3 cups of water to boil, add the beans to the boiling water, and boil for two minutes. Next, add 1 tablespoon of baking soda for each cup of beans, cover, and soak for 1 hour or more. Next, drain and rinse the beans thoroughly, cover with water, bring to boil, then reduce heat and simmer 1-2 hours or until tender.Never add salt, tomato paste, or anything acidic to your beans until they are thoroughly cooked and tender.
