✔️In this pattern we connect two symbols in one: the tree of life (symbol of fertility and goodness) and the eternity symbol in it’s root. It is an authorial improvisation of our favourite Armenian symbols.
✔️Armenia’s engagement with the tree of life motif runs especially deep, long before Christianity. Lots of ancient Armenian kitchenware and other things had the tree of life patterns on them, for example vessels for keeping oil, salt, pepper etc often have a primitive tree design, symbolizing life-giving properties of the vessel. It is also an important detail of Armenian national costume-taraz. There are lots of petroglyphs of tree of life on Armenian mountains.
By historian Artak Movsisyan the tree of life petroglyphs may be dated about several thousand years. You may read about that in his book «Նախամաշտոցյան Հայաստանի գրային համակարգերը».
✔️It is very interesting, that Armenian khachkars, or cross-stones, typically feature imagery evocative of branches, leaves and fruits.
Tree of life can be found also on the grounds of many of Armenia’s historic medieval monasteries, graves etc. We often use this symbol and will post on this website lots of items with it.
