About the Armenian Duduk:
The Duduk is a traditional Armenian woodwind instrument made from apricot wood. Typically measuring 28, 33, or 40 cm in length, it has 8 or 9 finger holes and one thumb hole, allowing it to produce a range of slightly more than one octave. The Duduk uses a double reed (known as ramish or yegheg in Armenian) that is usually 9-14 cm in length. A flexible wood binding surrounds the reed, helping to tune the instrument by adjusting the reed’s opening.
The sound of the Duduk is warm, soft, and slightly nasal, with a velvety timbre that is emotionally expressive and highly lyrical.
