The legend reads that Master Momik fell in love with the beautiful daughter of Prince Syunyats. The girl liked Momik too. The prince of Syunik called Momik and said: “I’ll marry my daughter to you, if you build a new beautiful monastery for me in three years.” The young master accepted the prince’s condition and started working. By cutting and chopping stones from the rocks, he completed the construction of the monastery in due time. Knowing this, the prince sent a servant, who by the order of the Master, climbed the dome of the monastery and pushed Momik down. The last stone cut by Momik became his tombstone. The monastery was renamed Noravank then as a new structure.
