This puzzle depicts the author’s decorative map of the Ancient Kingdom of Urartu, created specifically for the HaK’artez project by a young Armenian artist.
The Kingdom of Urartu, also known as the Kingdom of Van, was a Bronze and Iron Age civilization that flourished in what is now ancient Armenia, eastern Turkey, and northwestern Iran from the 9th century BC. Controlling territory through military might and the building of fortresses, the Kingdom boasted a vibrant arts scene, particularly metalworking. Lasting only two centuries, the kingdom mysteriously disappeared in the 6th century BC, and was only rediscovered as a distinct and recognizable ancient culture through excavations in the 19th century AD.
